The AoPS classes pretty closely follow the Beast Academy textbooks for 2nd-5th grade, and then the AoPS pre-Algebra and beyond for the other classes. The kids do 1 hr 45 minute classes with teacher led instruction, problems, reinforcing activites, and so on, and then they get about an hour of homework each week. She likes the Beast Academy comics, but doesn't really enjoy the work that much -- it's because the questions are harder and they make you think, even if you are good at math. Prodigy is more for practicing skills and getting fluent in them, Beast Academy is for thinking deeply about math concepts and challenging yourself. I also think kids could use more coaching on how to approach such tests. DC is used to being able to do things over after making a mistake (in Beast Academy, ST Math, chess, etc), which I think results in a more casual approach that backfires in a real testing situation. The grade level standards aren't out of reach for 99th percentile kids. We have been working with the Beast Academy books at home. Has anyone done the summer Art of Problem Solving summer course? So the ideal resource really depends on the topic and whether it's for deeper enrichment (Beast Academy), extra practice for fluency (Singapore math), or learning a new concept (? Khan video or Aleks, maybe). The Beast Academy classes will have math games interspersed with the hardcore regular math. The math games are just another way to check that they understand the concepts and aren't just memorizing algorithms. Pre-Algebra and beyond will be much more hardcore with less math play and more solid math. Language arts classes are solid.
