Even though the boy has become a pirate, he still cares for him; he won’t help him directly, but he won’t capture him either, despite his loyalty to the Marines. Garp is a character we have come to know and love over the years. He possesses a delightful blend of humor, laziness, and kindness. He truly embodies the spirit of the older Luffy. In Chapter 1087, Garp finally receives the spotlight he deserves, and I must commend Oda for his masterful portrayal. According to the spoilers for One Piece chapter 1157, the latest developments suggest that Garp might be the only character from the old era who wasn’t swayed by Shakky’s charm, further proving that he truly is Luffy’s grandfather. Sometime in the next two years, Garp got caught up in an argument with Fleet Admiral Kong over the status of giants within the World Government. Garp scoffed at the notion they could serve in the Marines but not actually be a member state, a sentiment shared by Sengoku and Tsuru. Both Garp and Dragon have different ideologies, as Garp remained in the Marines and believed the East Blue to be a peaceful place. Meanwhile, Dragon abandoned the Marines because of the corruption and injustice in areas in the East Blue such as Goa Kingdom and Tequila Wolf. Garp always punched Luffy when he wants to become a pirate king and refused to become a Marine. When they met following Luffy's piracy career, Luffy was scared to see him while warning his crew not to mess with him. Monkey D. Garp is the grandfather of Monkey D. Luffy. As a vice admiral and a hero of the Marines, Garp had high hopes for his grandson and wanted him to follow in his footsteps. However, Luffy chose the path of piracy, much to Garp's disappointment.
