Beyond convenience, oats stand out for their soluble fiber—especially beta-glucan—which helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels when eaten as part of a heart-smart pattern. They also supply magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, and B-vitamins that support metabolism and recovery. Oats may also contain gluten through cross-contamination and phytic acid, which can limit mineral absorption, making them less suitable for maintaining a balanced diet. This review article summarized the information on the chemical composition and phytonutrients of oats grown in different countries. Thus, our systematic review aims to summarize and explore the evidence on the effect of oat intake on the GI health and the gut microbiome changes in individuals with GI conditions (CeD, IBD, and IBS) and without GI conditions.
