SPECIFICATIONS Model 42-380, Code 121, is an eight (8) tube A.C. operated superheterodyne radio employing manual and electric push-button tuning. Donated by Robert & Allison Fentress In the late 1950s Philco introduced a new line of television sets called “Predictas.” This 1958 Model UG-4654 is sometimes called the “barber pole” model. Marketed as the world’s first swivel-screen TVs, Philco offered Predicta models with 17” or 21” screens in various cabinet styles. This was an era when “Space Age” designs were popular. Philco created several flavors of Predicta and there were changes for various production runs, as well. It's important to start out with the right schematic if you want to restore your set. Mine has chassis type 9L37, as indicated by the red stamp seen in the following photo. The Sams Photofact for this model is set 439, Folder 1, dated 4-59. The Philco Precision Etch Transistor Patent: The scan above is a stylized composite of the drawings associated with Philco patent 2,885,571, filed by Richard Williams and John Tiley in 1954. The unique construction of SBT transistors are documented in this patent. For example, Figure 1 is a cross sectional view of an SBT transistor – the yellow highlighted area is an N Type germanium die. The most important feature of the album s i that they can be opened easily, without the binding which is so char­ acteristic of record albums of the past. The Philco Model 095 Tester, appearing in illustrations 1 and 2, can be used for adjusting sets having IF’s of 175 or 260 KC; the Model 095B covers these two frequencies and also sets having IF of 450 KC. 3. A special fibre hex-nut wrench (Philco Part No. 3164), for adjusting the compensating condensers. Philco Radio is an invaluable source for the radio collector.
