Soon after Rusev returned to WWE as a face, Lashley and Lana began a romantic relationship, making out in front of Rusev. The storyline was soap-opera drivel that ended when Rusev was released from his WWE contract. Former RAW Superstar Lana (now known as CJ Perry) made headlines as she explained why WWE is better than AEW. She did so by referring to her storyline with Summer Rae. Sporadic WWE appearances (2022) Summer Rae made her first televised appearance after a five year absence on the January 21, 2022 episode of SmackDown, where she was billed as a WWE legend, taunting Natalya during her match, playing up their rivalry from Total Divas. Signing with WWE's developmental system in 2011, Summer Rae would find some success in FCW, where she would eventually become the General Manager of the brand before it was rebranded into WWE NXT. On July 19, Rae was drafted to Raw as part of the 2016 WWE draft, however due to injuries she never performed on the brand. On October 29, 2017 WWE announced they had released Summer Rae from her contract. Fandango chose Layla, engaging in a passionate make out session with the British beauty after she defeated Summer Rae at Money in the Bank.
