PSA to anyone who is currently considering using Dell's Trade in Program or might in the future - don't. Don't even think about it. However my concern is that I think Dell Command updates firmware and drivers that Windows update may not? Am I incorrect in that? Can't find much info online, but if someone knows off the top of their head it would be appreciated. The 5000 seems a little better, but the truth is, Dell hasn't made a truly good laptop since the 6430U, circa 2013. They switched to cheap-feeling plastic for everything, the keyboards are blah, and now these 7000 series run so hot you actually won't be comfortable using it on your lap, and that seems like it has to impact long-term reliability. Problems of Blocked Downgrade Recently, Dell has locked BIOS Downgrade functions on some laptop products because they don't allow users to go back to an older BIOS version which had security problems. Force downgrading using older Dell BIOS files will show a red message BIOS Update blocked due to unsupported downgrade . Mac recognizes that it is plugged into an external display (I think) but the Dell does not change from its own windows computer screen. I have tried playing with display settings on both the dell and the Mac. Is it possible to use Dell all-in-one computers as an external display? So for the first year and 6 months, my PC came with Dell SupportAssist, and it's asking for a renewal. Do you think it's worth renewing or extending? Does anybody know what this Dell Core Services application is, that is preinstalled on newly Dell systems? (Latitude 5530 in this casebut but also saw it on Precisions) But Dell customer service will almost always recommend SupportAssist. According to my experience, SA takes up more space and RAM than Dell Update, and the probability of SA crashing is higher than Dell Update. On my device, SA keeps crashing, especially when multiple tasks are running at the same time, whereas Dell Update never crashes. We purposely remove that general Support Assist program from our Dell computers because it has always been problematic. Instead we utilize Dell Command Update for general driver and system updates. However, recently we've noticed that Dell Command Update is installing something called Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin.
